about
Washington State is known for producing some of the finest distilled spirits in the United States using local Washington-grown grains. To celebrate this vibrant and growing industry, Heritage Distilling Co. has established "Washington Spirits Month".
This month-long promotion takes place in September with the aim to showcase the diversity, quality, and innovation of the state's distilleries in support of the continued growth of these Washington-based spirits brands.
Why September?
A celebration of the end of harvest season.
Fills the space between a wine month and a beer month.
Consumer transition into brown spirits and the beginning of the colder season.
Continuing to support local producers after the end of the tourist season.
Distilling History
-
Allows for distilleries to open within the state. In the first 6 years over 150 distilleries opened.
-
Washington distilleries are globally recognized for the quality of products including Heritage Distilling Co as the most awarded craft distillery in North America for the last 10 years in a row.
-
In the 15 years since the laws changed in Washington, more distilleries have closed. Supporting these small businesses is key to the growth of the craft spirits world.
A Call for local
Consumer trends are leaning toward local. We see large mixes across not only wine and beer leaning toward local suppliers but in the grocery space most markets have call-outs for local meat, produce, and dairy purveyors all over the store.
A cross-section of Washington state grocery chains shows a local mix of 1% or less in spirits. It's time that this category grew with the current trend.
